A well-balanced diet combined with regular physical activity is the cornerstone of good health. Lack of a balanced diet can lead to reduced immunity, increase in susceptibility to disease, impaired physical and mental development. Reduced productivity leading to economic losses to India.
 
Lack of an adequately balanced diet can lead to:
•  Greater risk for illness and premature death
•  Delayed mental development and therefore poorer school performance
•. Reduced productivity in the workforce
•  Reduced cognitive capacity
•  Women of shorter stature have a greater risk of complications during childbirth due to their smaller pelvis and are at risk of delivering a baby with low birth weight
•  Stunted growth can even be passed on to the next generation (this is called the “intergenerational cycle of malnutrition”)
